We shot this scene twice. The first time was in a small, simple hallway. There’s only so much wardrobe, lighting, & performance can do to convey mood & genre. For the reshoot, I knew we needed a better location. The historic Missoula County courthouse was perfect. It enhanced the Film Noir detective feeling I was going for. The symmetry of the building inspired the symmetrical blocking of the scene. This was one of the last shoots of the feature, “Saving For The Day.”
